I went to Paul after seeing two other therapists for stress and anxiety-related issues, who I found pretty unhelpful. I found Paul to be very Empathetic, attentive, and understanding, and I came away with a better understanding of how I can manage my emotions. I would 100% recommend him as a counsellor.

My name is Paul Rowlands. I am a Psychotherapist offering one to one counselling sessions attended in person or online. I offer support to men from all walks of life with a wide range of mental health difficulties. Examples include anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, work-related stress, relationship problems and adapting to significant life transitions. I have a special interest in male victims of domestic abuse, trauma and narcissistic abuse. Please check my services, and if you feel I am a suitable counsellor to meet your needs, please get in touch with me.
I am fully insured and a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). My formal education has taken me through a number of levels in counselling, recently completing a foundation degree in Person Centred Counselling. All of my personal development has focused on helping men get the most out of the therapeutic relationship. I am also a group facilitator at my local Andy’s Men’s Club. My aim is to help you live a life of fulfilment and happiness.
Becoming a counsellor has been a proud area of personal achievement and a significant career change. My previous vocation was working in the construction industry, where I worked for 25 years and ran a successful business. I felt very unhappy and depressed for a number of years, coping with day-to-day life and often, despite having everything I ever wanted, felt I wasn’t living the fulfilling life I dreamed of. I felt stuck!!! I took a big step and began counselling, where, over a five-year period, I had 146 personal counselling sessions and, during the process, changed my life. I understand what it is like to take the first step into counselling.
My individual therapy journey and counselling qualifications offer me knowledge and experience of both sides of the therapeutic relationship. It is a privilege to be in a position to make a difference by helping people turn their lives around, just as I was able to do.
“Walking a mile in someone else’s shoes isn’t as much about the walk or the shoes: it’s to be able to think as they think, feel what they feel, and understand who they are. Every step is about empathy.”

I volunteer weekly at the mental health charity MIND
I run a private practice in Hereford, where you will find plenty of free parking and lots of privacy for face to face sessions. My practice is very much a private, safe space where you can feel secure and comfortable.
Virtually…
I also work with clients remotely via Zoom around the world allowing you to get the therapy needed from the familiarity and comfort of your own home or private space.
The world is now seeing mental health as a part of our daily routines, and all of us will, at some point, find our emotions challenging. These feelings are simply our inner guidance telling us there is work to be done. Think of it as receiving data. Will you continue to avoid, rationalise, deny or diminish them? Or will you take charge and step into a future of your own design?
Mental Health Isn’t a new trend, with awareness of how experiences in our lives affect us dating back to the 19th Century. What is new is the awareness of how modern life and the world we live in today need to be managed. Finding a path forward can feel overwhelming, and the opportunity to pause and understand our thoughts, feelings, and actions allows us to manage modern life effectively. This can be achieved by choosing which parts serve us best and what we want to leave behind.
I create the correct conditions for therapeutic change using active listening to hear what you are “really” saying. I use my deep comprehension, advanced empathy, emotional intuition, and elevated awareness to allow us to deeply explore the real core of the issues you are experiencing. It is a privilege to work with all of the individuals I have so far. Supporting my clients with my own life experience and academic understanding allows me to use my own unique style of counselling. Helping people find their own paths, effecting change and discovering meaning in their lives so they can live the life they truly want to live. Often called the road less travelled, the path to who you truly are will be challenging. Carl Jung, a well-known Psychotherapist, once said, “Who looks outside dreams; who looks inside awakes”. If you feel I am the right therapist, it would be an honour to walk with you on your journey.
My practice and development are constantly updating. If you are facing issues that are not mentioned in the list below, please get in touch with me to discuss them.
At times, life can seem like a constant battle and overwhelming. The goals you aspire to reach might seem impossible and unachievable. There’s a persistent feeling that something is not quite right, but finding how to make those beneficial changes to enhance your life remains unclear.
You might be dealing with stress, depression, anxiety, and relationship troubles or have turned to coping mechanisms like alcohol, drug abuse or self-harm to handle pressure.
You deserve the time to focus on yourself, your needs, and your goals with someone who genuinely listens and understands. My approach is all about meeting you where you are and offering a supportive, healthy space where you can explore and find solutions that work for your unique life and aspirations. When you work with me, you’ll be with someone who truly understands the world you’re living in and is here to help you every step of the way.
